For today’s blog craft, we’ve partnered up with award-winning children’s book author and illustrator Abi Cushman!
Take advantage of all the toilet paper you’ve hoarded, and have your kids put together this Toilet Roll Bear Craft based on the very lovable, very soggy bear from her book Soaked!
Supplies
- Toilet Roll Bear template (Download it here.)
- Toilet roll
- Paper
- Markers, crayons or paints
- Scissors
- Glue or glue stick
- Tape
- 2 Q-tips
Instructions
1.Print the Toilet Roll Bear Template on the next page.
2. Color the parts using paints, markers, crayons, or a combination of any of them! (Hint: If you color the bear pieces using vertical strokes, it will make the fur look
really drenched.)
3. Cut the parts out along the dotted lines. Make tiny vertical cuts along the bottom of the head, ears and arms to create a fringe. That will make the fur look wet and raggedy.
4. Apply glue to the toilet roll and wrap the rectangular piece around it.
5. Glue the eyes/snout piece to the head. Then glue the head to the toilet roll so that the ears are just above the top of the toilet roll.
6. Glue the ice cream cone to the end of the arm piece. (The paw should be on top.) Then apply glue to the middle of the arm piece and attach it to the back of the toilet roll about halfway up. Glue the ends of the arm piece together in front.
7. Apply glue to the rectangular end of each foot piece, and attach them to the bottom of the toilet roll on the inside. Fold each foot piece up against the toilet roll edge to make a crease.
8.Color two Q-tips using markers or paint to make raindrops. Cut one in two (doesn’t have to be even). Tape the top of the whole Q-tip to the back of the cloud in the center and tape the two half Q-tips to each side, swab down. And finally, tape the bottom of the whole Q-tip to the inside of the toilet roll behind the bear’s head.
